For this Lab, I hosted a design roundtable with the theme “What’s Your Design Flavor?”. Every designer brings something unique to the table, some styles are bold and spicy, others are smooth and subtle. The idea was to explore how our individual creative “flavors” shape the way we work, collaborate, and grow as a team!
Beyond just being a fun metaphor, it’s a way to think about self-awareness and collaboration! Your design flavor influences how you approach problems, the tools you gravitate toward, and even how teammates experience working with you. Recognizing these differences helps us better understand each other and lean into our strengths.
To bring the idea to life, there was a quick activity: Build Your Designer Flavor Profile. Each person had a space to figure out their main design ingredient. It could be spicy, sweet, bold, subtle, smooth, crunchy, etc. Then, we swapped and added ingredients to each other’s profiles based on how we see one another! It sparked fun conversations, surprising insights, and plenty of laughter. Sometimes the weirdest ingredients turned out to be the most accurate!
In the end, the activity wasn’t just playful, it reminded us that design is as much about personality and perspective as it is about skills and tools! By noticing our own flavors and appreciating others’, we grow stronger as a team. Plus, who doesn’t love a little recipe remix for creativity?
